Walk Now for Autism

Walk Now for Autism logo

Tyler sitting
That’s my son, Tyler, sitting at the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial this past weekend during the Walk Now for Autism 2008 walk. This was the half-way point.

If you want to see some photos of the event, I have uploaded them to my Flickr account. Here is the link: Team Capes & Babes Walk Now for Autism 2008 photos.

And this was from my original post:
As some of you may know, my nine year old son, Tyler, is autistic. Two years ago, Tyler’s sister and her dad (me) participated in our very first Walk Now event in Washington DC. We weren’t able to participate in it last year but we’re really excited to do so THIS year.

The event is November 8th, 2008 in Washington, DC. I have created a Capes & Babes team. If you’re in the Northern Virginia, Maryland or DC area and would like to join my Walk Now team, please send me an e-mail at capesnbabes (at) gmail.com for more information.

If, on the other hand, you feel this is a worthy cause and would like to donate to the Capes & Babes Walk Now autism team, you can make an online donation at the following link:

Capes & Babes Walk Now Team

For online donations, there is a $20 minimum but if you would like to donate less then $20, the link above also has an additional link that tells you how you can make a donation via check or money-order.

This is an extremely donation-worthy event as autism is a frightening increasing disability among children in this country so if you deem my team worthy of your hard earned dollars, I thank you in advance from the bottom of my heart.

Also, a few years ago, I participated in an autism charity comic book called “Bots”. I would love to organize something similar to that. If any web comic creators out there would be interested in either participating or helping me organize such an event, please contact me at the e-mail above as I would be very interested in discussing such a project with anyone who has experience with such a project.

Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Baltimore Comic Con banner

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS…

Capes & Babes will be at the Baltimore Comic Con from
September 27th (Saturday) and September 28th (Sunday).

I will be at table number 121. I don’t know exactly where that will be located in the Baltimore Convention Center yet as no map has been created for the table layout though. If we should be notified of one, I will post a link here to let you know where I’ll be. Otherwise, you’ll just have to look for my Capes & Babes banner.

Here is my new “Appearances” page with all my Comic Con details. First up, Baltimore Comic Con 2008.

Heroes Con 2008…

As I’ve been mentioning the last several weeks, I am in the process of getting ready to head to Charlotte, North Carolina for my very first convention as an artist with a table. If you are planning on attending, I will be at Booth SP-18. Just look for the big “Capes & Babes” full-color banner.

I will be selling three mini-comics – each consisting of 28 strips from when I started Capes & Babes back in November. I will also be selling t-shirts that say “I drink plenty of flavored water. It’s called… COFFEE!”. I will also be doing commission sketches as well.

So if you’re in the neighborhood, please drop by and say “Hi”! I’d love to meet you and shake your hand.

Chris does YouTube!!!

by Chris Flick on April 18, 2008 at 16:26
Posted In: Promotion

As I mentioned in previous Blog post, I got a Creative pocket video camera for Christmas so, to test it out, I decided to film my drawing process for my December 26th strip. That part was easy. The hard part was trying to figure out iMovie, how to create a Time Lapse video and then get it on YouTube without any music copyright violations (ooops!). So, here’s the result:

This is just the drawing, inking and letting process. Once those things are done, I then scan the strip into Photoshop where I add shading and ink the borders digitally. Then the strip gets imported into Illustrator for the title, signature and credits below the strip before being uploaded on the web.

If you would like to see a few of my earlier videos (without the pocket video camera) I created a new page where you can see all of my YouTube videos. Here is the link to the new Capes & Babes YouTube video page:

External HD crash…

by Chris Flick on May 6, 2007 at 19:11
Posted In: News

Boy, Murphy was right. Whenever you NEED something to work, THAT’S when something will crash!
So last night, I’m working on today’s Capes strip and my little 100GB iomega external Hard Drive suddenly disappears from my laptop’s desktop.

A couple of hours later, it’s still gone. Can’t access. Can’t try to do a backup of it. Can’t do anything really. Fortunately though, my iMac at my office recognizes the iomega drive but warns that I need to do an immediate backup so I’m in the process of doing that now.

This isn’t ideal but in the mean time, enjoy the Sha-na-na cartoon for today. The good news is, this might mean the very first Capes SATURDAY cartoon! As soon as I have everything up and running, the new strip will be posted.

The management apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.
