OUR 1000TH STRIP PARTY!
Man… I can honestly say… when I started on this little adventure way back in the fall of 2007, I had NO IDEA if I would ever make it to 100 strips – much less 1,000!
When I was in college, I did a few strips that never seemed to get past more than 20. Mostly that was due to the craziness of college life, art classes and I was only 19 at the time. Plus, it was just plain nerve wracking trying to come up with new, FUNNY ideas ONCE A WEEK.
So, when I decided to start Capes & Babes, yeah, I was a whole lot older but the nervousness was still there because I KNEW the work that was going to have to go into this even if I steadily maintained a three strip a week schedule. And, for the most part, I have. The only times when I haven’t been able to post a new strip is when my convention schedule started to really take off or I had some baseball games – either coaching or playing – that interfered with that. Or, on occasion, real life reared its ugly head. But for a very large percentage of that time, I maintained that three a week schedule.
And so here I am at 1,000 strips.
It’s going to take some time to process this because, truly, I really wasn’t sure if I would ever make it up to the peak of this mountain. I’m going to probably write more about this in the next couple of days but for now, I thought I’d give you guys something a little special.
All the strips this week are interconnected. So, if you have a large enough monitor, you can either view or download the entire single piece that is displayed below. I warn you though, it is 2200 pixels wide. If I could, I would somehow make a special poster out of it but that poster would, literally, be something ridiculous like 25×4″ or something. I’m going to print it out on 11×17″ paper and see what it looks like. I have a feeling those characters aren’t going to be very tall at all. But we’ll see.
In the mean time, here are all three strips put together (click the image to see the bigger version):
And thank you all for everyone who has:
- Come to this site
- Enjoyed reading this strip
- Friended me on Facebook
- Has followed me on Twitter
- Added me to their Circles in Google+
- Has met and bought something from me at a convention
- Sent me a message, e-mail or comment over the years about the strip
- Ever told me that there was an error in the strip
- Ever left a comment in the blog section
- And who has just plain been a fan of Capes & Babes
I truly, truly appreciate ALL of your support!
Thank you so much, everyone. Today’s strip is for YOU!
Congrats to the hardest working man in webcomics. Great job, and great reveal this week.
Thanks. man. Truly, truly appreciate those kind words. I’m not sure if my WIFE would agree about the “hardest working” part, but I’ll take what I can get. LOL!
Congratulations, Chris! That is an incredible milestone. Thank you for all the laughs and entertainment you’ve given us. This was a great way to celebrate this milestone, and it’s especially touching that you also included your late father-in-law with the picture on Roy’s apron.
All the best and keep up the great work.
Awesome eyes there, Dave. Thanks for noticing that. I was originally going to put Bob (my father-in-law) in a picture frame somewhere in the piece but it just seemed that Roy’s apron was the best place to put him.
This was a great way to work all your characters into your 1000th strip Chris! Great job!
And congratulations on hitting 1000, that is a very impressive commitment to creating comics. 😀
Thanks, Bill… up until last week, I still didn’t know EXACTLY what I was going to do for this week but then, out of the blue, the idea of a bar-b-que line hit me and, today is the end result of that idea.
Congratulations! Reaching a milestone like that is something to be proud of, so take a well-deserved bow! Keep going, I hope to see your 2000th strip!
Thanks Cpt!
I already feel like I’m taking a tremendous bow. I might also take a little bit of a breather too… I need to gear up for the next 1,000 strips after all, right? LOL!
…but sometimes they write themselves though!
Congrats on the big 1,000! Hope for several thousand more to come!
And man I feel bad, I couldn’t recognize some of the characters and others I couldn’t remember their names. Nicely done, that’ll make a great booth banner 😉
Hey man… I had to go back through the books and remember some of the characters too and I created them! LOL!
It’s funny you should mention the booth banner thing… I was actually thinking this could be a new front table banner as I was putting the whole thing together last night.
Will there be more strips? I hope you haven’t decided to wrap it up yet. I still get a laugh out of reading them, even though I’ve already read all 1000 of them.
Andrew, there absolutely will be more strips. I have been swamped with some freelance work so I haven’t had a chance yet to make a filler strip yet letting everyone know when new strips will be back. I NEED to do that tonight when I get home from the gym.
Since Capes & Babes originally started on Sept. 12th of 2007, I was going to take a break until September 12, 2014. I figure it would be a great way to kick off the NEXT 1,000 strips! 🙂
