#936 – The First…
I posted this on my Facebook wall a little earlier on Sunday but thought it could go here too so those that haven’t friended me on Facebook yet could also read it. Also, if you’re interested in friending me on Facebook, you can find me here:

Here is what I wrote yesterday:
So this is for all art fans out there that catch themselves either wondering or asking why an artist prices his or her stuff as high as they do… this is not meant as a bashing of anyone – this is simply an informational post so you know what an artist sometimes has to go through in order to create a piece of art and why our prices might be what they are.
This weekend, the web site Carpe Diem Markers is having a HUGE sale on Prismacolor markers – my markers of choice… with free shipping for all purchases over $35 dollars.
Ordinarily, Prismacolor Markers have a MSRP of $5.28 a marker. Today’s sale was $2.19 a marker. A super deal but even so, I just plopped down $157 worth of markers and I still didn’t purchase all the colors that I wanted. I edited my list after I exceeded my budget in order to get to that $157.
Oh, and for those artists using COPIC markers, Carpe Diem Markers has a MSRP of $7.99 for each Original COPIC marker but is selling them for $4.85 a marker. Still a great deal but I can’t pass up the $2.19 per marker price.
So, when you’re walking artist alley at your next convention and you’re seeing some terrific hand-colored artwork but are wondering why an artist’s prices are so high, now you know. It’s ‘cuz we often have to re-stock up on these markers.
