#904 – What A Boob…
Poor Roy… even when he’s desperately trying not to say the wrong thing, he still somehow manages to stick his big, furry foot in his mouth.
But. surely Roy isn’t alone. Have you ever said something embarrassing, dumb or just plain silly to someone sitting behind a table at a convention? I know I have. I’ve gotten flustered enough that I once mentioned to a particular artist that I loved his work. I even went on and on about how I especially loved his run on a particular title and how he drew some of my favorite characters.
Turns out, I was thinking of a different artist and got their two styles mixed up.
What’s YOUR story?
Yes, I manage to do this AT. EVERY. SINGLE. CONVENTION. EVER. Lord help, for no discernible reason when I get to a table (with artists or dealers) that I don’t know, I go from erudite to gibbering fanboy. And I first started going to conventions in *1984*…
Kind of sad, really…
CptNerd… there should be some kind of support group for guys like us, don’t you think?
Maybe invite somewhat famous people to the group, so we can practice, kind of like aversion therapy…
Nah… not me. I *did* try to shake hands with a famous artist who was using an X-acto knife at the moment.
Doh! That would be a quick way to end your artist career, Tim. Glad it didn’t. 🙂
I have a nasty social anxiety disorder both cripples me in fear of saying the wrong thigns and conversely causes me to say the wrong things at the wrong things so I know exactly what Roy is feeling…
But as it pertains to the story itself the closes I have was four years ago at the local comic shop for free comic book day. I was looking over the sample of a new comic. I didn’t have the moeny to buy a copy of their comic on me at the time so I tried to politely pass on buying the book but it came out as being snobbish, annoyed, not interested…the exact opposite of how I wanted it to sound.
I still haven’t found the comic the guys were promoting, which stinks since it was really good.
“…came out as being snobbish, annoyed, not interested… the exact opposite of how I wanted it to sound”.
That reminds me of the how I felt every time I asked a girl out in high school and college. 🙂
Roy needs to bring a prepared statement next time. 😉
