#864 – Blinded By The Lyrics…
I’ve had this strip in my head for a while now but because Capes & Babes has been in the middle of a couple of different story arcs, I could never figure out when I could run it. Well, today seemed like a perfect day.
And if you don’t know what song Roni is referring to, here it is:
C’mon… admit it. Every time you hear this song on the radio, you think Manfred Mann’s singing something else too!
Still looking for guest strips for next week…
I know it’s short notice but I’m going to be at the National Challenger’s Little League Jamboree this coming weekend and won;t be home late until Sunday night. I also have a couple of freelance projects in the works right now that I have to get done before this Friday so it’s going to be next to impossible in getting a strip ready for Monday.
If you want to create a Capes & Babes guest strip, the only requirement is that the strip can not exceed 900 pixels wide. Other than that, you have free reign. You can e-mail them to me at capesnbabes [at] gmail.com
Buwahaha!
Wow, spooky, I was just thinking a few hours ago, that whilst I’d heard the correct words, it always sounded like “repped up like a douche” to me. (I know “repped” isn’t a real word, but like the actual words make any more sense!)
Yeah, that’s the crazy thing when I was finding the actual lyrics to the song… so much of those verses don’t make any kind of sense at all, do they? So it wouldn’t be completely out of the question that a made up word like “repped” made it into the song Maarvarq. 🙂
It’s “Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night”
1) That’s they way I’ve always heard it.
2) That’s the way it is on Springsteen’s official website.

Congratulations on your mastery of the totally inconsequential ;-|
LOL! Hey, I’ve been a Master of the Inconsequential for as long as I can remember, maarvarq. I wear that badge of honor proudly! 😀
It’s actually a Springsteen composition and even when he discusses the lyrics on VH1 Storytellers, I still don’t understand them!
Yeah, I was only mildly surprised that Springsteen wrote that song. I know he’s written lot of hits for other people – just like Prince has too. I always thought Manfred Mann wrote it themselves…
Funny thing is, listening to Springsteen’s own version… I actually prefer Manfield Mann’s version more. Go figure… 🙂
I recall seeing Springsteen, if not on that VH1 show, then another, saying that when he heard the Manfred Mann version, he thought they sang “douche”.
It’s “Revved up like a deuce” – referring to autos. 😉 At least, that’s how it was explained to me.
Hmmmm… the online lyric link I found had “wrapped”, not “revved”. Seems NO ONE can get these lyrics right – including a 400 year old vampire….
I never quite understood those lyrics either. But best not to point at someone while singing “Douche”. 😉
NONE of the lyrics to Blinded by the Light makes any sense Bill, no matter which part you’re singing. But yeah, not a great idea to be pointing to your girlfriend and singing “Douche”. But then again, no one ever accused Roy of being smart… 🙂
…except Roy himself 😉
I always thought it was “Looks like Noon in the middle of the night”, thank goodness I’ve never tried this one at Karoke night, I’d just be standing there reading the lyrics going….OK, not what I thought.
Hmmm… yeah, I guess I did squeeze the E, U and C too close together. And to think, I had just ordered a new batch of the old pens I had been using to letter the strip way back when because I wasn’t liking how the other pens I had been using were making the text look. This strip was lettered with the old pens so maybe I needed a little bit of practice time to get reacquainted with them again. 🙂
Oh yeah… my woefully out-of-date side bars…I keep meaning to clean those up or add new ones to the lists. I know about Wes’ new strip too. In fact, it’s actually pretty lucky you’re seeing Max vs. Max in the side bar and not You’ll Have That – his first strip. 🙂
I just noticed for the first time that you drew Roni without her hat and goggles.
Good eyes, Arkanabar. That was mostly out of necessity since her hat wouldn’t have fit it Roy’s Smartcar.
