763 – Episode II: A New Fine…
I will give a special shout out here, on Facebook and my Twitter feed for everyone who can tell me what the significance of Roy’s fine is in today’s strip.
Also, I have some other big shout-outs I want to mention as well…
On Saturday, I had a great time at the Southern Maryland Comic Con and, despite the fact there was no AC where we were, Dan Nokes (my table neighbor) and I survived and had a really great sales day. You guys are REALLY beginning to dig these caricature sketch cards I’ve been doing. I did those most of the day on Saturday.
A new convention tip:
I have already added a small gym towel to my convention items but I’m going to add a new item as well. I’m going to start bringing two battery operated hand-held fans. It’s a nice little portable way to keep cool when you start getting hot on a convention floor.
Another shout-out to Dan Nokes and all my friends that were involved with the Virginia Comic Con that was held the next in Richmond, Virginia. I decided not to attend that show simply because…
My brother, his wife and their daughter are in town from Las Vegas so we decided to have a huge crab feast yesterday. My dad, my brother and myself went in to Washington, DC and got a ton of crabs and the Flick clan pretty much spent all day yesterday eating them… so if you all were wondering why I wasn’t in Richmond, I was too busy working on the single reason why I will have to live in the gym for the next three weeks! Maybe by week three, I will have burned off all the crabs I ate yesterday.
Love it! There has to be a word for doing co-splay (is that the word?) in a comic strip, walking over different sets of ideals like this.
LOL! Well, COS-play IS word, Rob. Don’t know about “CO-splay” though…
I was pretty sure I got it wrong, but Google made me do it!! 🙂
5/25/77 – The day Star Wars premiered. Nice one Chris!
Yup, that’s it, LJ – thought you might like that! 🙂
On a side note, My wife also got it this morning when she read the strip but she didn’t want to spoil it before anyone else had a chance to guess. 🙂
Looks like Little John beat me to it. I was going to make a guess that it was the premier date. I didn’t know the exact date Star Wars came out (I wasn’t even born then) but I did know (thanks to Byron of 1977 the Comic) that Star Wars came out in 1977.
Yup, that’s right Vince. Good job. Thanks for the comment too… don’t feel too bad though. LittleJohn’s definitely an early bird who enjoys catching the worm. You gotta get up AWFULLY EARLY to beat him sometimes. 🙂
Death sure has some odd ball side gigs going on…
Ahhhh… I thought there might be some confusion about that. It wasn’t my intent on drawing a representation of death in today’s strip. I was shooting more for a cloaked “mysterious” individual hence no bony hands or the long scepter thing “Death” normally carries around.
I might have to do a whole series on who these “guys” are and why they are so mysterious. But this isn’t the last time you’ll see them. They might pop up again. Especially if (or more likely WHEN I make another writing mistake. LOL!).
🙂
May 25, 1977 is the Star Wars hit theaters.
Good job, Jim. Thanks for joining the club and getting the “inside joke” on that particular strip. 🙂
