753 – It’s Like Being Ironic…
For some reason, is weird Chris Flick Land, I always imagined Edie Brickell and Alanis Morissette are neighbors that share a morning coffee over their fence right before they alternate driving each other’s kids to school in their awesomely decked out soccer mom vans.
It’s probably thoughts like these that cause people to be shocked when I tell them I’ve never taken drugs in all my life.
Of course, there’s nothing ironic about rain on a wedding day either. As far as I can tell, there’s nothing ironic about any of the situations described in the Alanis’ song. I’d find that ironic if I thought it was intentional on her part, but I can’t give her that much credit.
Fortunately, Charlie, Alanis’ song came out long after I had completed all of my college writing courses so there wasn’t a chance I could put down one of her “examples” as an answer to what irony might be on any of my writing exams.
Isn’t the examples in her song more along the lines of similes instead of ironies?
You’re getting in my head again. I was just explaining to my daughter this morning who Alanis is after my falsetto G-rated rendition of “You Ought To Know”. I then explained that now that she’s a married Mom she’s likely too tired to be that angry anymore.
