697 – Southern MD Comic Con Filler…
Hey folks… hope you guys don’t mind the filler content for today’s strip. I was attending the first ever Southern Maryland Comic Con all day today (Sunday). Also, I’ve been fighting some seasonal allergies too so the combination of the two is really draining me of energy and I’m going to call it an early evening tonight and get some much needed rest.
In the mean time though, here’s a really quick shot of my table set up. I say “really quick” because I almost forgot to take a picture of the table before the organizers opened the doors to the public. I’m going to have to start making plans on creating a Roy Stand-up 2.0 pretty soon though. I’ve gone to great lengths to try and take as good care of him as I possibly can – and he’s still in pretty DECENT shape but five foot foam core will only last so long… no matter how careful you are with it.
Add a Roy stand-up 2.0 to my ever growing “to-do” list, I guess.
But on to the convention…
For a one day, first-time show, it was a really great turn out. I met quite a few folks on Sunday that were attending their very first comic book show of any kind – and they were really enthusiastic. And from an artist’s perspective, I had a really great show as I was literally drawing sketch cards all day long starting at 10:00 am and ending at 3:45pm (the show ended at 4:00pm – which also might explain why I’m feeling so drained as well).
I tell you… I started doing these “caricature sketch cards” back at the Baltimore Comic Con last fall and I really didn’t think much of it. Maybe it’s because I used to do caricatures at parties and other things in the past. Anyway, after today, I am definitely going to promote that aspect of my sketch card skills much more prominently than I have in the past. As you can see from the filler strip above, they were QUITE popular. In fact, had I not been so busy doing so many caricature sketch cards, I might have remembered to take more pictures of them. As it stands, the ones you see above are the only ones, unfortunately, that I remembered to take pictures of.
Before I sign off for the night though, I wanted to give a quick shout-out to Mark and his daughter – pictured on the left. Mark was very enthusiastic about my art – so much so, that he bought both of my books. Mark, I hope you get a big kick out of them and, if you’re reading this, feel free to add a comment in the comment section. I’d love to hear what you thought of the books.
Mark’s daughter also got a caricature sketch card from me but she was one of the ones that I forgot to take a picture of her and her card. Again Mark, if you’re reading this, if you scan your daughter’s sketch card and e-mail it to me, I’d be more than happy to post it here on this blog.
All right you all, I’m calling it a night. Come back on Wednesday and you’ll get the first installments of the story arc involving Roni’s new look. I think you’re really gonna love what I have planned…
