692 – Blame in on Hal…
I’ve mentioned many times in previous blog posts that when it comes to hand-lettering this strip, I’m always trying out and experimenting with new pens. This strip is one of those times where I decided to try one of those pens.
This particular pen an Alvin Penstix No. 3017-F 0.7mm. Here’s what it looks like (if you’re curious):
I’ve used this pen on other graphic design gigs but thought I’d try it out on the strip. I was hoping to find a pen that was as easy to write with as the one I had been using (a Copic pen) but with a little thinner line as I thought some of my letter lines were looking pretty fat.
I can’t promise how long I’ll stay with the Penstix pen but I am going to try lettering a few more strips with it.
What do you guys think? Can you notice any difference in readability between today’s strip and the previous strips?
I can’t really tell a difference, I guess the question is best answered by you – good grip? Flows evenly? Does it seem high maintenance?
I’m still amazed at how you can center your text by hand.
Thanks, Tim. For the most part, I do it all by eye. But I always lightly pencil the lettering with a mechanical pencil first. And sometimes there can be quite a bit of erasing with the kneaded eraser until I get some of the lines just right.
I have to agree with T. Andrew. I opened strip 690 and compared it with this one by rapidly flipping back and forth between the two tabs focusing on the lettering and they looked identical.
