685 – New Year’s Recovery…
Welcome to the first Capes & Babes strip for 2012. You might be wondering why this particular strip is a bit late. Well, that’s an interesting story…
You see, during the Christmas break, I was in the middle of transferring my Capes & Babes site from one host to another. Ever since the start of Capes & Babes, a very good friend of mine had been graciously allowing me to use space on his server in order to host my site, but for a number of reasons, it was time to migrate to a new host – iPage. My friend I were hoping it would be a relatively easy process to move my site from his server to iPage’s server. Well, if you follow me in Facebook, you know that it ended up being a five day ordeal.
At one time, it looked like we got the site up and running but kept running in to PhP database errors – and nothing was linking correctly. Then, Ben (Tovias from Reality Amuck) suggested we had to do a full reinstall to the latest version of WordPress AND ComicPress as I was originally running a slightly older version of both. That solved all the php database problems but then, there were no comics appearing AT ALL!
Well, in stepped Chris Maverick of Hellcat Cosmos. With his help, we were able to figure out that when when we did a new reinstall of WordPress and ComicPress, all the comics came in to the site but were listed in the “Uncatorgorized” category. I had to spend most of that day using ComicPress’ manager to bulk edit all the strips and classify them as “comics” in the category section. Once I did that, the comics appeared.
I spent much of yesterday trying to configure other things in the site… I have my Project Wonderful ads back up in my side bar and all my older sidebar information will soon return. The sidebar information is pretty easy to solve but there are still a number issues I have yet to be able to figure out how to fix.
The most pressing issue I have yet to figure out, however, is the home page. For some reason, I have 55 blog posts all showing up there when there should only be, at most 2-5. I have been digging all through the ComicPress dashboard and I can’t find anything that will change this. If anyone knows of a way to fix this, I’m all ears.
In any case, the conclusion to all of this is that this is really not how I wanted to spend my Christmas/New Year’s vacation. I had wanted to start working on the cover of the third book, “THAT’S why you can’t print FLICK”, as well as get some sketch card commissions completed. As it stands right now, I still have a lot of work to do on the site so don’t be surprised if you start seeing a lot of changes in the next couple of weeks. And hopefully, I can figure out the Home Page blog post problem soon.
Thanks for everyone that let a hand via Facebook, Twitter and Google. All your input was greatly appreciated!
