767 – Main Attraction…
I got a confession to make. I feel like crap. Physically, I mean.
Earlier this year, I decided that, after 20+ years, I wasn’y going to play in my men’s senior baseball league this summer. I wanted to finally dedicate at least one summer to fully committing to pushing Capes & Babes and going to as many conventions as I possibly could this year. The problem with that though is the baseball season and convention season always clash with one another.
The last couple of years, I missed a couple games here or there or I decided not to go to a convention because it conflicted with an important game. This year though, I decided to hang up my cleats and devout all of that energy to going to conventions and see what might happen. Well, what I am finding out is that I am a goal-oriented person… meaning, I’m finding I’m having a terrible time trying to motivate myself to go to the gym and workout on a regular basis. Knowing that I’m not playing any baseball during the weekends and occasionally during the week nights, I’m, lacking the proper motivation to force myself to the gym and I’m finding it extremely easy to make excuses why I can’t go – or why I shouldn’t go.
Without the challenge of a game at the end of the week, I’m finding it hard to force myself to physically prepare my body for something that will never come. I gotta make a lot of changes in my life. I don’t think they are super hard… so, instead of being all super depressing about this crap, let’s try to have some fun with it by having a Capes & Babes confession time.
I know I need to make some changes in my “lifestyle” and I know exactly what those changes are. I’m going to list mine and I challenge all of you to list some of the changes YOU know you should make in your own life – but for whatever reason (legitimate or not) you just can’t seem to pull the trigger.
Here are mine:
1) I have GOT to cut all the sodas out of my system.
I have partially done that by drinking a ton of tea whenever I get home. I just have to do it DURING the day too.
2) I have GOT to get more sleep on a daily basis.
I’m pretty good about getting the strip done by 12 – 12:30am but I waste a LOT of time in the evening too. I can easily have the strips done and posted online by 11:00pm.
3) I have to have MUCH better eating habits.
I am either eating way too much during a meal or way too little (especially during conventions). I have to find some way to start eating five small meals a day instead of sugary crap for breakfast, starve myself until noon and eat a big lunch and starve myselkf again until dinner time.
4) Those sugary, crappy breakfasts have GOT TO GO!
5) I have to do SOMETHING in the gym – even when I don’t feel like it.
I have to remember, at least SOMETHING is better than NOTHING.
Those are MY five. What are yours?
Werewolf Wednesday
No Werewolf Wednesday today as no one has sent me their photos or requested to be drawn like a Capes & Babes werewolf yet. Can’t draw what I don’t have. Right?
I’ve got a couple of the same ones, namely the sleep and eating habits ones. I can add a couple though…
I have GOT to quit smoking. I find it insane that I still do, but it’s so damn hard to quit. My dad died from lung cancer from smoking, and I have a 7 month old sleeping the the next room. You’d think that’d be enough incentive.
I have GOT to cut down on the stress I put myself under at work AND at home. One guy can only do so much, right?
Feels good to get this stuff out, thanks for the push, Chris! It’s good to have goals.
I’ll try to find a good picture of myself, I’d LOVE to be a werewolf!
Chris, there is a great book by Allen Carr:”The Easy Way To Quit Smoking”. I work in a bookstore and I’ve had customers come up to me and say, “This book works!” Give it a try. There are organizations who can help you, too. Check them out. I wish you success.
Chris, giving up soda was the easiest of our common ground.
In the gym I would recommend yoga for our sedentary lifestyles cause you’ll want to remain flexible during your baseball hiatus.
1. I have to put less stress on my self
2. I have to learn I can’t please everyone
3. I have to clear out the clutter
4. Take time for just myself and also me and hubby time
5. Give other people chores so that I don’t feel responsible for everything(see#1&2&3)
Chris,
I can certainly relate to how you feel. It seems like when we hit 40, our bodies change, and we have to work twice as hard. It just sucks! I tell you what, I will make a pact with you to do all the things on your list because mine parallel yours. Ironically, I have the very same list! We will hold each other accountable to the list. I will check in with you via e-mail in 30 days to see how we have done. I need your support, and it seems you need mine. I feel like crap, too! Let’s make a change for the better together.
Love you,
Cousin Susie
I am trying to lose weight here so I know what you are going through, Chris. Just keep up the good work.
I lost a lot of weight because of hyperthroidism, and I now have to watch my calories so I don’t put weight back on, now that I’m on medication. Of course, I try to eat healthy and get enough sleep.
I got a resistance band to start doing exercise at home. It works great! I hate gyms, for a few reasons. I also do tai chi, which is good exercise for many things: weight, flexibility, balance, etc. And there’s a good reason it called meditation in motion.
As for falling off the wagon, don’t ever let guilt keep you down. You get up, dust yourself, get back on and keep going. Eventually, you WILL reach your goal! I’m rooting for you, Chris!
