Leaving Roy hanging…
Well, today starts the Webcomics Weekend. For those of you that don’t know, a bunch of web comic creators are descending onto the New England area to hang out for the weekend and, essentially, “talk shop”. I’m sure there will be a lot more going on – especially “events” featuring all sorts of alcoholic concoctions.
I would love to have gone and – for a brief time – took a very hard and serious look at possible ways that I could afford to go but in the end, I realized I’m just not at the point (yet) with Capes & Babes where I could afford to go on a trip like this. My priority (and finances) have to be dedicated towards getting the first Capes & Babes trade paperback collection printed and if I went to Webcomics Weekend, I just wouldn’t have had the necessary funds to finance the printing OR being able to attend Heroes Con in June.
Right now, those two things are my priority.
But to all of my friends who are currently up there and having a good time, I’m going to be partaking of my OWN alcoholic endeavors this weekend as I celebrate my birthday. Okay, okay… I hear what you’re saying… “How old am I?”, right? Well, I’m not gonna tell you outright. Instead, I’ll give you a little glimpse of how long I’ve been on this earth…
- I have a US Bicentennial Quarter.
- My first “album” that I ever bought was KISS’ Destroyer album (it was really a tape).
- I watched the 1980 Olympic Hockey game on TV (yeah, I thought it was live at the time).
- I remember the flat top Pirates baseball hats and “We are family”.
- I remember the Chicago White Sox shorts.
- Before Emmitt, the best Dallas running back went by the name of Dorsett.
- I remember Friday Night Videos on NBC.
- The first movie I ever saw on HBO was “Alien” – yes, the FIRST one.
- I saw Star Wars: A new Hope in a drive-in theater – actually, my brother and I got bored watching “Freaky Friday” so we got out of my mom and dad’s station wagon, hoped the fence and watched (not listened since we were too far away from any speakers to hear the dialog) Star Wars that was playing on the next screen.
- As a kid, I routinely drank water from a garden hose.
- I know what “tear down these walls” means.
- I had a pretty big crush on “Joe” from “Facts of Life”.
- I used to be able to hum the theme song to “Hill Street Blues”.
- I used to sing the “S.W.A.T.” song while playing “S.W.A.T.” as a kid.
- Before Avery Brooks was cool as Captain Sisko, he was first cooler as “Hawk” from “Spenser for Hire”.
- I saw Billy Joel in concert when he was thin. And married to Christie.
- I’ve seen Rocky Horror in the theater. AND threw stuff at the screen. AND dressed up. AND died my hair (when I had hair).
- I saw Kirk Gibson’s World Series home run – not live but I screamed like crazy as if I was in Dodger stadium when it happened.
- I saw Bull Durham and the Karate Kid in the theater.
- And… I once skipped PE class in high school so I could stand in line for four and half hours to see “Return of the Jedi” on opening day.
THAT’S how old I am.
🙂
